Job Type: Seasonal / Part-Time (weekends & holidays required – flexible weekday hours)
Pay Rate: $13–$17 per hour (depending on experience) + tips
Reports To: Lake Owner / Manager
Job Summary
Shorty's Paylake is a family-owned and operated pay lake for over 30 years. We’re looking for a friendly, reliable, and outdoorsy Pay Lake Attendant to join our team in Smiths Grove, Kentucky. You’ll be the first face our anglers see, making sure every visitor has a great fishing experience while keeping the lake clean, safe, and running smoothly. Perfect job for someone who loves the outdoors, enjoys working with people, and wants flexible hours right by the water.
Key Responsibilities
- Greet customers, collect daily fishing fees, and issue permits/tags
- Sell bait, tackle, snacks, drinks, and fishing supplies from the on-site store
- Monitor the lake area, enforce rules (no littering, safety guidelines, catch-and-release zones, etc.)
- Keep the grounds, restrooms, docks, and parking areas clean and organized
- Perform light maintenance tasks (mowing, trash removal, minor repairs)
- Assist with fish stocking when needed and keep basic records of daily catches and sales
- Provide excellent customer service – answer questions about fishing conditions, help beginners, and make everyone feel welcome
- Open and close the lake each day (early mornings and evenings)
- Handle cash and electronic payments accurately
Qualifications
- Must be 18+ years old
- Comfortable working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Friendly personality and strong customer service skills
- Reliable transportation and ability to work weekends & holidays
- Basic math skills for handling cash and sales
- Previous experience in retail, customer service, or outdoor/recreation work is a plus (we will train the right person!)
- Fishing knowledge or a love for the outdoors is highly preferred
- Valid driver’s license and clean background check
